Perfect shot...bad lighting.

What if the right shot has bad lighting?

Sometimes the image you want to capture, the one that tells the best story of your adventure, doesn’t have the best lighting. It could be backlit, overexposed or dappled with shadows. For guests to purchase a photo memory of their adventure experience it’s important that the photo is crisp and clear everytime. Luckily Action Photo Systems has solutions in place to get an excellent photo in a huge variety of lighting conditions.

At our most recent installation at Rush Mountain Adventure Park it was important that the mountain coaster photo capture the rider with Black Elk Peak in the background - the tallest mountain east of the rockies. Unfortunately capturing this shot meant two less than ideal things: the photo would be backlit for part of the day and there was a lot of safety netting in the foreground.

Raw image. Backlit photo and ugly safety netting in foreground.

Thankfully we have solutions for both of these problems! First, we use a high powered flash to freeze the action even at the high speeds of the coaster. This combined with our triggering system means the guest is caught at the exact same moment every time regardless of how fast their going. Second, we use an image correction software on every photo that corrects the image for poor lighting and makes the colors pop! Finally, every image automatically has the company logo inserted on it before it’s pushed to the kiosk for sale. In this case we added some local “pine trees” to the logo to cover up the unsightly fencing.

Edited image #1. Lighting enhanced.

Final edit. Lighting fixed, pine tree added to hide safety fencing and customized logo added. Perfect shot!

Looking at the three photos you can see the difference from raw image, to color corrected and finally with the logo added. If your current system doesn’t have these capabilities it means your photos are less than ideal and you’re providing your guests with blurred or shadowed photos.

In the case of Rush Mountain Adventure Park, we were able to quickly replace their previous underperforming photo system and provide these great new images that are consistently awesome. Let us know if you’re in need of a photo system for your adventure experience - we’d love to help!
